Jesus: Authentic Human

Each week, Pastor Kim will provide resources to accompany the sermon series, including a Spotify playlist, a book recommendation, and a tool to help you apply what you're learning. This week includes a list of God's promises and a book recommendation.

Start by listening to the sermon, "Jesus: Authentic Human" then check out the resources below.

Open Spotify and listen to the playlist.

The purpose of this playlist is to help you live the gift that is your life!!!

Hopefully the Holy Spirit will connect you to the Word, reminders of God’s desires for the human race, understandings of how our neighbors engage with life and much more! Many of these songs will be from artists who may not personally know Jesus—they are here because all good things are taken up into the life of God and belong to God. He provided the resources to create these songs and when they are shared they become part of the good gifts that God gives us.

Every week new songs will be added based on new themes that arise from our time in the Word on Sundays! I hope you enjoy!

Please email me any song suggestions you might have:  kim@folcov.org

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

ANSWERED PRAYER

  •  James 1:5— If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

  • 2 Chronicles 7:14 — If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Book Recommendation

“When our gaze awakens to the gaze of God, we have started to see. Seeing clearly, we can love well.” Seeing with New Eyes is a collection of essays written by David Powlison. Through Bible exposition, topical essay, editorial and sermon, David explores two main topics:

  • Scripture: In his Word, God speaks into real life to help us understand him and his intentions. How do we embrace Scripture to hear him at that level?
  • People: How can this deeper understanding of Scripture help us understand – and help – people (including ourselves) amid the problems of daily life?

Seeing with New Eyes also shows one how to look at many common struggles through the lens of Scripture, including:

  • Worry
  • Victimization
  • “Love languages”
  • The new biomedical approach to personal struggles

Since God does have take on counseling, David encourages readers to “think Christianly” about these struggles by learning to think God’s thoughts after him. This book will help readers to listen, look, and think wisely, with renewed hope, following the patterns of God’s gaze.
